In mid-November, Obama unveiled this indirect attack on Hillary Clinton and George W. Bush:

Finally, earlier this week, Hillary released a press release citing an essay Obama wrote as a kindegardener, another essay from third grade, and a quote from one of his law school acquaintances, all suggesting that Obama was planning to run. The section on third grade read as follows:
In third grade, Senator Obama wrote an essay titled ‘I Want To Be a President.’ His third grade teacher: Fermina Katarina Sinaga “asked her class to write an essay titled ‘My dream: What I want to be in the future.’ Senator Obama wrote ‘I want to be a President,’ she said.” [The Los Angeles Times, 3/15/07]
After being ridiculed about the matter for a day, Clinton’s top pollster and adviser, Mark Penn stated that the press release was just a joke. No one seems to have quite believed that, but that’s the current state of affairs.
