{"id":3720,"date":"2009-08-10T15:47:24","date_gmt":"2009-08-10T20:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/2parse.com\/?p=3720"},"modified":"2009-08-11T09:00:32","modified_gmt":"2009-08-11T14:00:32","slug":"right-wing-editorial-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2parse.com\/?p=3720","title":{"rendered":"Right-Wing Editorial FAIL!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Stephen Hawking in Space\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/173\/474125918_b0d4160171.jpg?resize=380%2C253\" alt=\"\" width=\"380\" height=\"253\" \/><\/p>\n<p>[digg-reddit-me]The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibdeditorials.com\/IBDArticles.aspx?id=333933006516877\">rabidly right-wing yet still influential <\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibdeditorials.com\/IBDArticles.aspx?id=333933006516877\">Investors Business Daily<\/a><\/em> opines against health care reform saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn&#8217;t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, Stephen Hawking <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stephen_Hawking\">is and always has been British<\/a> &#8211; having lived and worked and been taken care of by this system.<\/p>\n<p>All this is to say nothing of the various other canards raised &#8211; namely that any of the current plans being debated bear any resemblance to the British single-payer and entirely government-run system.<\/p>\n<p>The editorial also explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The British have succeeded in putting a price tag on human life, as we are about to.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Matt Yglesias <a href=\"http:\/\/yglesias.thinkprogress.org\/archives\/2009\/08\/the-market-value-of-a-life.php\">nicely parries<\/a> this point:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[A]s with all anti-rationing talk you really have to wonder what rightwingers think happens in a free market system. In a pure market, your life is worth what you\u2019re able to pay. The way the free market works, if an indigent woman gives birth to a premature infant you let the infant die.
