{"id":492,"date":"2008-06-03T11:03:54","date_gmt":"2008-06-03T16:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/2parse.com\/?p=492"},"modified":"2008-06-03T10:20:50","modified_gmt":"2008-06-03T15:20:50","slug":"the-weekly-standard-jumps-the-shark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2parse.com\/?p=492","title":{"rendered":"The Weekly Standard Jumps the Shark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, I only read <em>The Weekly Standard<\/em> on a weekly basis, so I missed this Dean Barnett gem from last Thursday in which he made exactly the same point I <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=490\">predicted and pre-ridiculed<\/a> in one of my posts yesterday: that just as Reagan deserves credit for the collapse of the Soviet Union that his policies seem to have accidentally caused, so Bush deserves credit for the intra-extremist fight against Al Qaeda which his policies actually held off; not only that, but the fight was a result of Bush&#8217;s actual failures and Al Qaeda&#8217;s successes.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/Content\/Public\/Articles\/000\/000\/015\/156mifoa.asp\">Ridiculous<\/a>.\u00a0 And apparently of exactly the quality that <em>The Weekly Standard<\/em> wants:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Since these have been George W. Bush&#8217;s wars, one would think he would receive at least a modicum of credit for any progress.
