Tonight, it&#8217;s John McCain&#8217;s turn to speak. Though it seems unlikely he will inspire feelings as strong as Palin either for or against him, he is the candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2199042\/#planthree\">we are running against<\/a>. And now that McCain is the official nominee and is <strong>accepting federal financing<\/strong>, he will be forced to <strong>curtail his spending<\/strong>. ((To $84.1 million dollars &#8211; so it&#8217;s no chump change.))<\/p>\n<p>We all know this is an important election. This is the time to donate for the <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.barackobama.com\/page\/contribute\/pf?outreach_page_id=28895\">maximum effect<\/a> &#8211; to allow Obama to <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=735\">out-manuever<\/a> McCain over the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some reasons to <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.barackobama.com\/page\/contribute\/pf?outreach_page_id=28895\">donate<\/a> right now, while McCain is giving his speech, and in the immediate aftermath:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>To throw the <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=923\">bums<\/a> (aka Republicans) out<\/strong>. Enough is enough. We need <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=790\">change before it&#8217;s too late<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To prevent (another) unnecessary war<\/strong>. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/id\/134317\/output\/print\">new cold war with Russia<\/a>? <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=428\">Killing the United Nations<\/a>? Sabre-rattling with Iran &#8211; which would be further destabilized if the situation with Russia deteriorates. John McCain thinks that<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iVfU8g8dlNg\"> Iraq and Pakistan border one another<\/a> and can&#8217;t tell the <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/03\/18\/mccain-iran-al-qaeda\/\">major Muslim factions apart<\/a>. All he knows is that there are <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=474\">enemies<\/a>, and we must defeat them. Sun Tzu said that you must know your enemy to defeat him. John McCain prefers to wing it, and he has <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=796\">quite a temper<\/a>.<br \/>\n<object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/PdJUCU1UH2w&amp;color1=0x-6e8789e9&amp;color2=0x25161297&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" \/><\/object><\/li>\n<li><strong>To save the internet<\/strong> as we know it. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g-mW1qccn8k\">Barack Obama supports net neutrality<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=696\">John McCain opposes it<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To get out of Iraq<\/strong>. The <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=584\">Iraqi prime minister<\/a> said he likes Obama&#8217;s plan. The Iraqi people prefer Obama&#8217;s plan. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/07\/19\/world\/middleeast\/19iraq.html?pagewanted=print\">George W. Bush is moving towards Obama&#8217;s timeline<\/a>. The only person still too stubborn to acknowledge the facts on the ground is John McCain.<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Endless War\/End this war\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2parse.com\/\/images\/endthiswar.jpg?resize=421%2C285\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"285\" \/><\/li>\n<li><strong>To <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=788\">reinvest<\/a> in America<\/strong> &#8211; with tax cuts to the middle class, with investments in infrastructure, with incentives to develop green energy alternatives, with health care reforms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To stop Palin from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/printout\/0,8816,1837918,00.html\">burning our books<\/a>, teaching <a href=\"http:\/\/dwb.adn.com\/news\/politics\/elections\/2006\/governor\/story\/8379502p-8274738c.html\">creationism<\/a>, and opening up our local parks to <a href=\"http:\/\/usredtory.wordpress.com\/2008\/08\/30\/palin-and-shooting-wolves-from-helicopters\/\">hunters in helicopters<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To restore the Constitution<\/strong>. To restore the balance of power in Washington, to stop the cruel and inhuman torture of our prisoners, to acknowledge the vice presidency is part of the executive branch, to have a president who does not consider himself above the law, and to punish those who have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2008\/sep\/03\/uselections2008.joebiden\/print\">committed crimes against the Constitution in the Bush administration<\/a>. ((For those whose thoughts immediately went to FISA when seeing this, I gave <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=553\">my opinion already<\/a>.\u00a0 And regardless &#8211; you have to admit Obama would be better on these issues than McCain.))<\/li>\n<li><strong>To get <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/story\/2008\/06\/09\/ST2008060900950.html\">my tax cut<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/articles\/21670\">To finally have a president who will be serious about national security<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To demonstrate against the crass politics of celebrity and the crowds chanting, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/politics\/la-na-giulianitranscript4-2008sep04,0,5260395.story\">Drill, baby, drill!<\/a>&#8221; so that we can take on the serious and complex challenges facing America<\/strong> &#8211; including terrorism, global warming, the <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=788\">destabilizing effects of globalization<\/a>, the massive shifts in power in the world, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/business\/displaystory.cfm?story_id=3518560\">economic stratification of America<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Because <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=923\">after over 25 years of Republican dominance in Washington, four more years is not an option<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=923\">.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Bonus<\/em><\/span><\/strong>:Because John McCain&#8217;s campaign will be under <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/09\/02\/AR2008090202863.html?hpid=topnews\">spending restrictions<\/a> from here-on out. And Obama can pursue <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=735\">a 50-state strategy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from all this, here&#8217;s my one sentence explaining <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=796\">why I support Obama<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you think this election will be important, now is the time. <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=495\">Our moment<\/a> is now. <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.barackobama.com\/page\/contribute\/pf?outreach_page_id=28895\">Donate tonight<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Believe that there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/2parse.com\/\/?p=846\">better place around the bend<\/a>, as yet unseen.
